Project Description

This large-scale integrated mining and power project was undertaken in collaboration with Australasian Continental Energy Pvt Ltd (AACE), Australia. The project aimed to develop opencast mining operations with a capacity of 18 million tons per annum (MTPA) of coal to fuel a 3000 MW power generation facility. It was designed to ensure long-term energy security by utilizing Pakistan’s vast Thar coal reserves.

Key features of the project were based on the following three stages:

  1. Mining Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS)
  • Coal reserves to JORC standard (confirmation)
  • Extraction process
  • Mine Design
  • Plant design
  • Equipment and infrastructure requirements
  • Environmental issues
  • Financial viability
  • Hydrogeology
  • Social Impact Studies
  • Alternative processing methods
  1. Mining operations were planned for uninterrupted coal supply for power generation.
